Learning is the main objective in our Simms The River's Edge Fly Fishing Classes. With so many wonderful trout streams in the Bozeman area, we have a wealth of experience teaching anglers from all over the world how to cast, tie knots, catch fish, and everything in between. If you've ever wanted to learn how to fly fish, The River's Edge Fly Fishing Classes offer the perfect opportunity to ease into the sometimes complicated sport of fly fishing.
What's Included
When you book your private Montana fly fishing classes, you can expect plenty of one-on-one time between you and our excellent instructor, an overview of aquatic insects and other food sources, a run through of all the gear you'll need for a successful day, knot-tying lessons, and even some time on the water to put everything you've learned to the test. We provide all the gear you'll need for your class, so all you need to do is show up, be eager to learn, and, most importantly, prepare to have a great time! Class Sizes
Our lessons are designed to provide you with plenty of individualized instruction, and for that reason, we keep our classes small and private. We can accommodate groups of up to four students and, with the classes being private, you can learn and have a great time with friends, family, or even just by yourself.

Mike Pogoda
Mike has lived and fished all around the country, but finally settled in Big Sky country nine years ago. During that time, Mike began working at The River's Edge, eventually becoming manager of the shop. While serving as manager, he especially enjoyed giving anglers advice, seeing them put that advice to use, and hearing about their successful days on the water.
He's now transitioned into sharing his passion for fly fishing through personalized instruction. Mike enjoys helping people fall in love with the sport of fly fishing and sharing his knowledge of Montana with others. He is extremely laid-back, with a patient and humorous personality, and makes learning to fly fish extremely enjoyable! On the off chance Mike isn't out fishing, he's usually camping, skiing, or simply enjoying the outdoors with his wife and son.
Once you're comfortable with your newfound fly-fishing skills, it might be the time to join one of our experienced and knowledgeable guides on a guided Montana fly fishing trip on one of our beautiful, trout-filled local rivers.
